While this product states on the packaging that it is a Chinese innovation, the material itself is in fact a Japanese innovation. That said, it is pretty much identical (I have one made in Japan) and works very well as both a back scratcher and back scrubber. As a back scratcher, it works much better than the typical back scratcher, which is generally a stick with a scratching end that looks like fingers. Those don't "get out the itch," however. This stops the itch completely. In the shower with soap, it works well, too.
