steel toe but completely insulated and warm so my toes do not get cold. completely waterproof never had a problem. The only downfall I can say to these are they are not so resistant in any type of way on the ice. but then again in the conditions I'm in right now most boots wouldn't be. other than that for the value you can't go wrong
