Amsterdam label Konkurrent's "In the Fishtank" EP series allows artists to experiment with different approaches in an off-the-cuff setting. For Tortoise's Fishtank session, the Chicago post-rockers decided to collaborate with Dutch punk band The Ex. The results are an original, unusual mixture of Tortoise's subtle, dubby grooves and The Ex's angular, hard-hitting, guitar-driven attack. Over the course of six tunes, the two bands join together to create a constantly shifting vortex of sound that's alternately meditative and aggressive. There's more urgency here than on any of Tortoise's previous recordings, but the complex textural palette that is the Tortoise trademark is nevertheless well represented. $19.31 Was $23.03
