About Piccolos in Woodwind Instruments & Accessories - Walmart.com
How is a piccolo different from a flute?
Piccolos—sometimes referred to as baby flutes—are approximately half the size of a standard flute. Both instruments are members of the woodwind family and have many of the same note fingerings. The sounds produced by the instruments are the main difference between them; a piccolo plays one octave higher than a flute.
How do I clean my piccolo?
Your piccolo needs a cleaning after every playing session. To clean the inside, you will need a cleaning cloth with a rod or pull string. Insert your cleaning cloth into the opening of the piccolo’s tube and draw the cloth back and forth. To clean the outside, gently use a separate polishing cloth on the keys and body. For best results and to avoid damage to your piccolo, use cloths and tools made specifically for instrument maintenance.
Can I replace the key pads in my piccolo myself?
With the right tools, parts, and technique, it is possible to put a new set of key pads on your piccolo yourself. The tools you will need to make the repair include an instrument screwdriver, alcohol lamp or lighter, new pads, glue pellets, key oil, pipe cleaners, and a key clamp. A tray to keep all of your parts in order for smooth reassembly is also useful. Be sure to follow any specific instructions listed by the manufacturer.
