Oil your paper shredder to limit dust and debris buildup between the rotating cutting blades. Shredder oil is vegetable-based and formulated to tolerate excess heat. You can run an oil sheet through the shredder as an alternative to pouring oil into the paper slot when you need to lubricate the blades. With an oil sheet, you lessen the chance of spilling oil. Also, you don't need to worry about using too much oil.

Most shredder bags are pre-punched for convenient insertion in your shredder, and they're reinforced for mess-free use. It's helpful to choose bags that are compatible with the model and size of your shredder's waste bin. Plastic shredder bags made from 2 to 4 mm plastic are less likely to tear when you toss them out. You can recycle paper shredder bags, which are often made from recycled materials, along with paper shreds.
