Foam sheets can sometimes work better than bubble wrap. You can neatly and securely stack a maximum number of dishes and similar items in a box. In addition, foam sheets provide thermal insulation to protect electronics and other temperature-sensitive items. Polyurethane foam, used for light and small products, and polyethylene foam, used for heavier items, dampen vibrations and absorb shock. Packing peanuts provide cushioning and help prevent movement. You can use them to keep a variety of items from sliding into other items inside a box. For added protection for valuables and fragile items, use them in combination with foam sheets. Biodegradable packing peanuts are an alternative to Styrofoam packing peanuts. They're made from nontoxic, natural sources, like wheat and cornstarch. Biodegradable peanuts can go directly into compost piles, and they don't harm children or pets if they accidentally eat the peanuts.
