The ladder is not connected directly to the shelves.The ladder bars sit a little higher then the shelves do. You are not climbing on the shelves themselves. Hope this helps!

My 13 year old son loves this loft bed and the separate desk that comes with it. The bed is not too high, but the perfect mid-height for him to sit under comfortably to watch TV or play his video games. His 42" flat screen fits perfectly underneath even with sitting on a 4"platform to bring the TV off the floor. With the help of someone it is very easy to put together, and really looks great in his room. The price is right, and the loft bed is not at all cheap looking, which was a concern of mine. But, I was pleasantly surprised. Perfect for any size room, but especially one that is on the smaller size. I would recommend this item to anyone looking to make space, or just to create a fun space for the kids.

Twin Loft Bed with Desk and Shelving

I got this bed for my 5 year old son so he wouldn't be upset that his sisters got loft bunk beds. He loves it. I put it together by myself while my husband was working and I didnt have any problems. The instructions were easy to follow. The desk isn't real sturdy but my son just puts his DS on it anyway. I was able to fit a large toy box under the bed which saved a lot of room. He was a little scared of going down the ladder at first but it didnt take long to get over it. Now the only problem i have is keeping my 2 year old from climbing up it.

We bought two of these. All the parts were in the box including everything needed to put it together. It was a bit of a pain to put together because the screws had to line up exactly in order to get them started. I have put together a lot of furniture and have never had this much trouble getting the screws in. Other than that the instructions were clear and it was easy to put together. They're pretty sturdy, but we bought them for our 6 and 7 year old so they don't put a lot of weight on them. I have gotten on the bed with my kids as well and they held up fine. That was a total of approximately 220 lbs. The beds don't take up a lot of space and their sparse lines make everything look neat and organized. Plenty of room underneath for the desk, a toy box and a chair, plus the shelves. Plenty of room for the kids to sit up in bed too. Very happy with them especially for the price.

My daughter LOVES this bed! It gets her high enough off the ground to to be disturbed by her little brother but not too high to be a far fall. It was fairly easy to put together too aside from a couple pieces missing stickers. I usually don't use the instructions, but this has parts that look easy to guess when they are not. Pay close attention to the holes for the bolts and where they go on the instructions! I would suggest lock-tight for all of the bolts in the desk. Without a front crossbar the bolts loosen easily causing the desk to wobble. Easy fix with some lock-tight though.

Great set, just needs lock-tight!

Before I settled on this bed for my son I was looking a good buy that would be able to work for all the needs that I was needing. When I did settle on this particular bed my only concern was that the space under the bed wouldn't be what I was seeking. But after I assembled the bed I was very surprised by the height. My son absolutely loves his new bed and uses the selves to display his Lego creations and other toys. The desk comes in handy thought the day as well.

good buy

It was what I expected. took a couple of hours to setup with a helper, it came with all parts even with some extra. Seems sturdy enough for my 10 year old but step shelf needs some kind of non-slip rubber grip or something, my son slipped when climbing up with socks on.

As an old man in a small "L" shaped room I needed all the space I could get. This bed filled the bill and I now have more room.

I was easy to put together but it took me a few tries as my eyes are bad and I got things messed up a few times. A letter system is used to put the pieces together and I reversed a couple of main pieces and had to start all over again. My bad not the vendors.

Would go with 5 stars but using an Allen Wrench to put the pieces together was time consuming and hard on my arthritic fingers. Outside of that all went well and the bed is very sturdy even after I made a slight adjustment.

Go get it if you need it.
