There are actually plenty of holes for shelves, you just have to get the little clips to hold the shelf and the shelves. I don't think you would need to drill any holes at all....more than enough there already.

There are so many extra holes for the adjustable shelves, that you could add more adjustable shelves without drilling any extra holes. Just space the adjustable shelves out in a way that you can use the existing holes. And then get yourself more shelves.

There are lots of holes already drilled. The problem would be finding or making shelves that match, but if you don't mind mismatched shelving it would be fine.

You won't need too it has extra holes. You put pegs in the holes and the boards sit on top of them.

yes it would be good for that. only the back panel is thin wood, the shelves and frame are solid.

I'm not an expert, but from looking at my shelf, it seems like it would be fine to drill holes if needed. FYI: There are 3 adjustable shelves. The third shelf down is fixed into the shelf and cannot be moved. Each of the other 3 shelves has a choice of 5 holes to place the shelf on. If you were to place your shelves in the existing holes, you could potentially add new particle board shelves to the existing ones, and fit at least 6 more adjustable shelves without needing to add holes--the spacing would be 5 inches between shelves if you placed a shelf at the top and bottom of the 5 existing holes, or 8-10 inches of space where there are no holes until it reaches the next set of holes. You may have to buy some more particle board shelving and shelf holders (which we've done before at Home Depot--they'll even cut the board for you). Good luck!

Yes, but very carefully. Drill hole from outside, and then into shelf. Use a long black screw to hold the shelf.

There are a lot of extra holes you will need more shelves and pegs to lay the mom.

There are 15 holes in this item, you would probably not need to add additional holes.

If you do decide to drill more holes in the sides, I have a trick which will help you to prevent you from drilling too deeply and coming out the other side, leaving an unsightly hole on the outside. Wrap some masking tape around the drillbit marking the depth you want to drill. It will help you to stop before you go too far. My Dad taught me this and I have drilled countless additional peg holes in things using this method. WD-40 will help remove any residual adhesive from the drillbit.

I&#39;ve drilled new holes and added shelves.   If you add shelves, the hardest part is finding shelving that will match the color and grain.  Lowes carries a material in their shelving department that comes close to Sauder Country Pine.  I had to rip a bit off the back side to match the width to Sauder shelves.  You also have to buy extra shelf supports, which I&#39;ve found in two sizes, one of them has the correct size insertion pin to fit the Sauder holes.  If you drill more holes you will need to use a drill bit that matches the pin size on the extra shelf supports.

If I'm only storing lightweight things like sweaters, would it be okay to drill add'l holes for more shelves? Can particle board be drilled?

The 2nd shelf from bottom is permanent. Three are adjustable with 5 hole adj. each. Two areas with the 5 adj. are above stationary shelf and 1 below.

All of the shelves within the bookcase are adjustable.

There is a permenant shelf in the middle that supports the entire unit.
There is room for one adjustable shelf above and two below, at least that is how we used it.

The adjustable shelves are the two top ones, and the lower one, above the base. The other shelf is fixed and part of the bookcase's structure.

The top 2 shelves and the bottom 1 shelf are all adjustable. The one I got has a total of 5 shelves. The second from the bottom is not adjustable, as it serves as a connecting/attachment point for the back. The sides are not drilled for multiple locations of that one shelf, but have multiple heights for the others.

There are two fixed shelves (bottom and second from bottom) and the other three are adjustable (between the two fixed shelves and two above that)

The third shelf is not adjustable. The two at the top and the one at the bottom are adjustable.

There are so many extra holes where the adjustable shelves go, you won't need to drill any extra holes. You could easily add extra adjustable shelves if you wanted to. Depending on how you space them out, obviously.
