Yes, you can record VHS to DVD with this recorder. THe information regarding 8mm is not available.

According to the accompanying manual you can go straight from VHS to DVD (and vice versa).
I don&#39;t recall any mention at all regarding 8mm.

No, this device does not record VHS content to the DVD drive.

answer 1 is correct as far as it goes. However, as I read your question, the answer is yes. Although I have yet to try it the manual and menu says you can record vhs to dvd, and dvd to vhs.

This will not include all of the connection cables.

It came with the 3 interconnect RCA cables (red, green and white). I don&#39;t recall unpacking a HDMI cable.

It was easy to hook up and I was able to use it right away!

I'm finally able to watch my movies on VHS again!

1) I am reasonably satisfied with what I received for the money. It will record and play back both VHS tapes and DVD-R and DVD-RW discs. I plan to use it to time shift some TV programs and copy some of my old tapes to DVD.

2.1. I am not happy in that it will not record two programs at a time, even using both tape and disc. 
2. 2. Nor, does it have a battery backup for the clock and program functions.
2.3. I missed on the description that it lacks a tuner and MUST have and external one available to record stuff other than duping tapes.

So far I can live with 2.1 and will have to suffer if I have a power outage when I am away from home as in 2.2.

I do plan to upgrade in the future to a machine with a hard drive which some, if memory serves, will perform for 2.1 above.

Not bad for the money

Overall this is similar to other products made by Funai Corp (Funai, Magnavox, etc) with one exception, you can only use DVD-R and/or DVD-RW disks, you can playback DVD+R and DVD +RW if they are finalized. Further, you cannot erase a DVD-RW, but you can reformat it and use it again for recording. Other recorders support both type of DVD formats +/- R and +/- RW, so you keep that in mind if you plan to purchase this unit.  My experience thus far is positive with one exception, the first unit I received was defective and I could not use the VHS portion of the unit, WalMart replaced it with a second unit which I just installed as so far it works as it should.

Video recording

So far, so good. This product is replacing a Magnavox unit that worked flawlessly for over 8 years until the vcr outlet stopped working so finding this Emerson dual unit was a real coup. I'm really happy as it's for my mom and if she's able to figure it out, anyone can work this!

Easy set up and easy usage!

Several family members asked me to copy their old VHS tapes to DVD.  My very old machine died so I found this:  Emerson DVD Recorder / VCR (ZV427EM5) Refurbished.  I should have paid for a new rather than refurbished unit.  After the first day the 'counter' for the VHS tapes stopped working making it difficult to know when to stop recording to DVD! It's all guess work at this point and not good.  I will be taking this back to Walmart.

This item arrived in good time but was packaged insanely.  In a box that had holes in it, this delicate piece of electronics had ONE piece of bubble wrap taped around it, with the remote and manual floating free in the box.  In spite of that, it looked pretty good.  I hooked it up, plugged it in and hit the power button on the remote.  Hm, no power.  I replaced the batteries in the remote and tried again. No power.  I cheked all connections to no avail.  After calling the company whose phone number is on the box, I could not fix it.  They suggested I pack it up and take to a Wal-Mart store.  Which I did and got my money back, only to find I had been charged $25 more than the price indicated on walmart.com.  Too bad.  I opted not to replace it at this time.   No trust.  Bummed.  Wanted to get  my VHS tapes on DVD to save space.

Poorly packaged.  Inoperable

I was excited to receive this recorder because I have several VHS tapes I wanted to put on DVD. It was poorly packaged, just wrapped in a piece of bubble wrap and thrown in a box. The remote was busted. Took it out and noticed something was moving around, like something was broken. I plugged the unit in only to find that someones VHS tape was stuck in the VCR portion. The player would not eject the tape. I used a flash light to see that it was a purchased VHS movie and obviously the previous owner could not get it out and was the reason for their return. This was simply a broken unit that had been returned and was not even looked at much less "refurbished."  I took it to my local Walmart for a refund. I thought refurbished meant that the product had been inspected and fixed to meet standards of a new item. This was just someones else's returned broken unit. Don't waist your time and money on a "refurbished" item. You are just buying someone else's broken/refunded garbage.

the unit user guide recomend jvc-s disc to record on, i tried recording on memorec disc and this unit will not record to memorec and since the tsunami in japan wipe out the plant thay made blank disc i dont belive anyone make jvc disc anymore at least i couldn't fine any

Features don'the work.

The recorder does not work. I purchased 3 different types of DVDs that it said it used and none of them worked. I had to take my VHS to someone else to get copies made.
