Assemble it with any jig head and it works like a charm! So far it has been my favorite! If you are targeting big ones you may find it attracting too many small fishes, but definitely great for starters.

Have been fishing with the Berkley Gulp Alive 1" smelt and 1" chartruese since they first came out, Catch Crappie is what they do... I used to spend $$ every time we went fishing on live minnows, now I can catch 10-12 crappie form each Berkley Gulp alive before it is too tore up from too many hits. I don't even use jigs anymore. Rig these things like a live minnow and just drop it down for some immediate action....it's like crappie candy. Throw 'em back in the tub to recharge them after catching several crappie and take 'em out again later and they're just like new. I will not use anything else... Told all my friends about them and now they are buying them too.Thank you berkley for an awesome product!!

No more live bait

I tried these out for the first time, tipped Crappie jigs with the 2.5" pink shine. Suspended them under a fixed float near cover and came up with some slabs. These also seem to work well for finesse situations, when the bite is lite. I also like how I can recharge/re-use them.

Good for Crappies

On a recent guide trip for crappies, I spent money on a lot of minnows. To my surprise, 
 my grandfather and grandson duo did much better on Berkeley Gulp minnows then live minnows! No wet hands from the minnow bucket, no casting off the bait. 
As a fishing guide of 35 years, I can honestly say that Gulp is a great alternative to live bait!!

Gulp is Fantastic

When the crappies are on, casting a 1 inch Gulp black shad minnow with a 1/32 oz chartreuse jig is the bait to use!  In the spring and the fall, this combo outperforms minnows on a bobber hands down!  Even in the summer evenings, when I get sick of bluegill fishing, I'll catch crappie on this combo as a nice change from the routine.

Also, on occasion, I have picked up an walleye and bass on this combo.

Gulp minnow black shad 1"

I have guided for 18 years with no live bait in boat and almost all repeat business. The minnow is my bait of choice in spring and fall. Small twitching action makes this bait the real thing. Back and white best. I also have good returns on them behind spinner in the summer. The chartreuse and orange or chartreuse and green shine at t times during summer. Chartreuse and orange works well when they are hitting crawlers.

No live bait in boat 18 years

I got this product hoping I could a lure that could get hard to get crappie to bite. WOW ! Was I ever surprised, I've fished for years and so what the Crappie Nibbles could do. I had been a live minnow fishermen, not anymore. And it's cleaner and you can keep it with you all the time. Once you decide how big a profile you need, well I use Nibbles for small profiles. But use Gulp Minnow for a bigger profile. Profile, I'm talking about the size of the bait.

Surprise !

My name is Gary and I fish around Sarasota, FL. This bait is perfect for this environment. Snook, red fish and mangrove snapper love this bait with an 1/8 ounce jig head. The scent, colors and size seem to be good to be used year around. When we have water above 70 degrees I usually work the jig by keeping my rod tip parallel to the water and give two quick jerks and then let it fall. Please keep a tight line because they love to pick it up when the bait is dropping. When the water is cooler I cast the bait, let it sink to the water and keep my rod tip perpendicular (or close to it) to the water while popping it a couple of times and then letting it fall. This bait is definitely a "go-to" bait in my arsenal. Both fish in the attached pictures were caught with this bait. Enjoy!

Perfect size and the scent helps

Great bait, routinely outfishes live bait. I mainly use on 1/8oz  jighead with 3in minnow and have caught 8 species with it, but mainly sauger and walleye. I only wished they lasted a little longer, 3 or 4 walleye/sauger and I need a new bait because the fish tears it up where it wont stay on jighead(including flipping it upside down after 1 or 2.). I save the beat up baits and cut them up into 3-4 pieces and catch crappie and panfish on a float/bobber rig. I've caught many rock bass, bluegill and crappie with pieces of the gulp minnow under a bobber. I understand they are not made from plastic so get beat up quicker, if you could get them to last as long as a standard grub/twister tail I'd give it 5 stars.

Great bait, just wish were more durable

First used gulp minnows 1" long  2 years ago.  Great lure for catching bluegill and crappie and occasionally bass.  Could catch up to 5 or 7 fish per individual bait on gig head.  Recently purchased more 1" culp minnows.  Quality of new lures sucks.  Lucky to catch 1 fish per lure.  Texture of new lures are softer tearing off of hook easier.  Price of lures increased quality rated at zero.
