Yes I would say so. We have it at the top of our stairs and it works great!

This gate is good for the bottom of the stairs. We recommend the Stairway Special for the top of stairs.

It's a lot easier to swing the gat open and let close behind you than to have to hurtle like the old style.

Better than the old style

The Cardinal Gate Autolock is an excellent product for my purpose. It is built sturdy and easy for adults to operate as long as they are not weak handed for some reason. The spring lock definitely would not be operable for a small child. It is attractive and you don't have to step over a rail to get through and it provides full access to your steps or room.

After measuring for what seemed like hundreds of baby gates, the dimensions for this one fit our space! We have quite an odd top-of-the-stairs configuration, and I'm confident this gate is sturdy enough to handle any challenges. We love that it swings both ways and can hear it locks back. The only changes I made were: purchased longer screws for a more secure attachment to the wall, and I purchased a small brace to secure the middle of the hinge side (it only comes with holes for the top and bottom, and I wanted to secure it in the middle).

This gate is great. We purchased it for the top of the stairs. It is VERY easy to open one handed while holding my son which is important to me. We had a different/cheaper gate at the top and it was impossible to close one handed so we never shut it. What's the point in having a gate if it's never shut? This gate is very sturdy and I feel safe with my son upstairs. It is definitly worth the price!

Awesome gate!

We needed a gate to keep our dogs out of the living room. We bought and returned 2 gates before this one. First one was an installation nightmare. Second one was impossible to open and close . This one installed easily and works easily too. Cost a little more but well worth the price difference.

Very good gate!

I purchased this gate for installation in my son's house at the top of the stairs due to its high safety rating. I am very pleased with the quality, fit, and design. No bar at the bottom for tripping is also great.

Cardinal Gate with lock

I purchased this gate so that I could keep my little dogs out of my bedrooms. Few weeks after installed something happened to the locking mechanism. I reported it to Cardinal and the problem was solved within 4 days. They shipped me a new locking mechanism right away. They gave me no hassles at all.

I love the gate. Also looks good in the house. Plan to buy at least 3 more.

This is a really good gate.  I would buy another and recommend the product.    The gate is metal and has a seemingly durable coat.  I like the quality of the material and workmanship.   The reason for the 3 stars?  To get the attention of Cardinal.  The included mounting kit is useless.  No anchors are included and the screws are too short to secure to the studs behind thesheetrock.  This gate should get 5 stars.

Great gate useless mounting kit.

I liked this gate from the look of it. The metal appealed to me, as it seemed it would stand the test of time more than a plastic or even wood baby gate. It didn't make it's appearance look too shabby, either. The autolock function seemed amazing for a busy, pregnant mom of a child with developmental delays who still somehow managed to get into everything (at 16 months - he still can't even stand or hands&knees crawl). My parents actually had 2 that they bought a couple years back and that was the real selling point for me, despite our rock-bottom budget. Their gates have held up fabulously. But, I guess quality control has gone done or I just got a stinkbug. After barely over a month, a piece of metal fell out of the part you lift to open the gate, so there is no resistance. As soon as my son learns to stand, the gate will be completely useless. And if I have kids over - it's useless now. What a waste of time & money :\
