UPDATE: Though not purchased at the same time, I ordered a pack of cartridges. It appears that the problem was with the cartridge that came with the pen. A cartridge from the pack works and the experience I expected has begun! Returning to a fountain pen takes a bit to get use to but the journey is fun.
