Sony BDPS1700 Blu-ray Player

If you're looking for a Blu-ray/DVD player and you're on a budget, this Sony is hard to beat. Granted, there's no display on the front and it doesn't support WiFi (Ethernet only), but it does all the basics and features HDMI as well as a separate coax digital audio output, so you can run the audio separately to a stereo receiver or surround system. Overall I'm very happy with it.

Very nice player for the price. Better than the similarly priced Panasonic DMP-BD90 for the following reasons: nicer physical appearance, quieter operation, coax digital audio output, more intuitive remote layout with larger buttons and TV power, input and volume controls, nicer looking interface that provides more information about currently playing disc or file, plays more file types from usb drive. The biggest drawbacks with the Panasonic is its relatively noisy operation, very tiny play control buttons on remote, and relatively ugly, cheap-looking interface. The Sony also uses a bit less power. Picture and sound quality on both is pretty good and hard to tell the difference between them back to back. For most people, the Sony is the better player.
