Great seed starting soil.

I would say this is a premium soil blend for seed starting. It’s some what expensive especially if you start a large amount of seeds in trays for transplanting. One less star for cost. If cost isn’t a problem stick to this brand for seed starting holds moisture well no large wood chips. I usually screen regular potting soil and works great but if you can get over paying more for a seed starting soil this is a go to. Their seeds are another story.

Not feeding the seedlings at all.

The size for the value was great, but the quality of the product is very bad. I was planting from seed, they came up just fine, but then I noticed immediately they started turning lime green and needing to be fed, which means it's not good ceiling soil because it doesn't have what's required to make a baby seeding thrive. I would not recommend you trying this unless you have a lot of nutrients you wanna add to your baby seedlings. I don't really like to feed mine until they're bigger. I like them to grow and be nurtured by the soil they're growing in and this is definitely not it. Go with black gold.

Hi Shona! Thank you for your feedback. Our Organic 3-in-1 Seed Starting Mix has an NPK value of 0.08-0.02-0.02, which is great for starting seeds. The seed relies on its stored energy to develop roots and the cotyledons. The general rule of thumb is to wait until the seedlings have developed their second set of leaves, known as the true leaves. The second set of leaves that appear, which resemble the final plant foliage. This indicates the plant is now relying on photosynthesis and root uptake for energy, rather than stored seed energy. It's time to start feeding for most plants, this is around 2-3 weeks after germination, or when seedlings are being transplanted into bigger containers. If you have any questions, we're always here to help and would love to hear from you. Please reach out to contact@backtotheroots.com with photos of your plants and details about your care routine.

Pass on this

Soil had large chicks of wood, sticks, and other large debris. Was not what I was expecting for a seed starter soil. Doesn’t seem to soak up water well. First picture is straight out the bad and the second is after watering. The water is pooled in the bottom of the tray but isn’t absorbing into the soil. Will probably have to amend the soil with perlite which defeats the purpose of spending $8 on seed starter soil. Do not recommend.
