Excellent speakers in the right situation

I read several reviews of the speakers on the Internet before purchasing them. However, when I received them, I was pretty unimpressed. They were not bad, but also nothing great. I tested them out, then used them for a few months as desktop speakers, mostly at "background music" volumes. However, I recently cranked up the volume a bit and discovered that with decent but not extreme volume--now that they have had a few hundred hours of playing time to break in--they sound excellent! They are far more detailed and dynamic than when I first bought them, with a much more open soundstage. Imaging is only so-so, but my cluttered desk may have a lot to do with that. Most speakers improve after break-in, but this was a rather extreme example. On the downside, the volume range at which they sound their best is rather limited. On a desktop or other near-field situation, they will probably play loud enough for most people, but even in my small 13' x 12' office I can't get them loud enough to fill the room from a more distant seating position the midbass gets boomy, and then soon after, distortion sets in. If you lan to use them in a similar setup, and especially if the Bluetooth is useful to you, I highly recommend them. (They definitely sound better with a wired connection, but the Bluetooth connection can come in really handy sometimes.)
