Worked great in my heavily shaded lawn.

Had a rough winter this year and I have two very large dogs who tore up the lawn. Took those two problems as an excuse to patch/re-seed my lawn. Front and rear lawn are covered by trees of varying densities and see sunlight steadily for just a few hours a day. Applied dense-shade mix as instructed after aerating and applying compost layer to lawn. I then fertilized with SCOTTS lawn-starter fertilizer. New seedlings started to appear after 2 weeks and everything looks fantastic now as I enter week 6 of project. Lawn is lush and green and looks like a carpet. PRO TIP: Water every day. EVERY DAY. No excuses. You will see much better results.

Outstanding product!!

Thank you, Scotts, for your dense shade mix. The area under my large maple tree gets very little sun, and my soil is poor. I so much wanted grass to replace the muddy, ugly mess my dogs play in, and had high hopes for this product. It delivered! Important note: I followed its instructions to the letter--no deviation. I prepared the soil as directed, using the recommended Scotts soil with fertilizer, and I watered according to directions. I live in far north central Illinois, and planted in early May. Three weeks later, the first shoots appeared and from that point, we were off to the races. I took a before photo--so ugly! Today, the area is beautiful--my dogs and I enjoy it! Only bad thing is I have more to mow, ha ha. I am very grateful, highly recommend this product, and strongly suggest that you follow the directions exactly as on the bag. Sorry the photos are sideways; I tried to fix it :(

I live in southeastern Wisconsin. I applied early this spring. I went over my back yard with a dethatcher first, then applied this grass seed and applied topsoil over some of the completely bare spots. My back yard is almost completely filled in now with thriving grass. It's very shady back there, so I'm surprised it worked but it did. Very nice grass.
