This shelter works well for us. I've seen negative reviews for some of these types of sun shelters. Can't speak for other brands, but as long as you set it up properly, this one will work well. To start with, make sure the sand bags are set up in line with the sides of the shelter (side bags in line with front %26 back sides, and front/back bags with left %26 right sides). If you don't expect much wind, it's ok to just do a shallow hole in the sand and partially fill the bags (maybe 3/4 full). Having a hole will prevent the bag from sliding on the sand If you expect wind or gusts, make sure you a) fully bury the bags; and b) fully fill the bags. We were on a pebble/sand beach and filling the bags with bigger rocks made them heavier, but you'll need to be careful not to damage the fabric when putting stones in %26 taking them out. Make sure you pull the shelter tight as you lay out the sand bags. Once you put up the poles, wrap the rubber bands around the ball on top of each pole three times. Finally, the bottoms of the poles are pointed. This will help on grass, but in sand it will help the pole to dig in ever further as wind flutters the shelter. I used flat rocks to put under the poles to prevent them from digging in. Might also be able to use drift wood or even shells to do the same. The shelter comes with a big bag that makes it easy to store the shelter once you pull it down. I can set up the whole thing on my own in about 10 minutes (including filling the bags/digging holes in the sand). I like the fact that you can leave two of the poles off to make a lean-to type shelter. Late in the afternoon the shade tends to wander out of the shelter. Once you take off the two back poles, the shade area is back under the shelter. We've had this for about two months and have used it about 30 times in winds up to about 15mph. The pointers above come from a learning curve I went through. Can't speak about the UPF, but we always use sunscreen anyways, even below the shelter, which we use to lower the temperature. At the beach you'll have lots of bounce of rays off the water, so sunscreen is a must anyway. Bottom line is that this is a good shelter for the money and I'd buy it again.

First off, if you order the 10x13 and look at the book and it says 10x10 make sure you measure it first. It appears the manufacturer sends the same book for each model regardless of the size so do not panic like I did. The product arrived on time and was well packaged. I chose this one over others because of the amount of sandbags(8). The day we went to the beach it was calm winds at first then the winds picked up speeds. Ours stayed put and needed no adjustments. There were others on the beach that had just 4 sandbags and they were having troubles. While we were on the beach we had a few couples come up to us and ask about ours and where we got it. It was the most stable one. Others on the beach had pop up tents and they were dug in and they were having troubles also. We like our new Rhino Valley beach tent sun shelter.
