I needed a desk that was pretty big but off the ground so that it didn't totally block the air conditioner duct. this one sits up off the floor just enough. It seems very sturdy and wasn't really that hard to put together. On the door or drawer columns, make sure you read the instructions - the first instructions are for the door on the left side. It wasn't what I wanted but I forged ahead and will have to deal with it. as far as sturdiness, it seems pretty sturdy and I really like the veneer.
