Brother Compact Monochrome Laser Printer, HL-L2315DW, Wireless Printing, Duplex Two-Sided Printing

The box contained the Brother HL-L2315DW Black and White Laser Printer, (1) Starter Toner Cartridge (approximately enough toner for 700 pages), (1) DR630 Drum Unit (previously installed into the printer. (yields approximately 12,000 pages) a CD ROM containing a User Manual and Printer Drivers, Also in the box was a paper Quick Setup Guide. The Quick Setup Guide actually was quite easy to understand and the instructions were clear and concise which made for an easy setup and installation. The physical setup of the printer involved removing the printer from the box, removing the clear plastic shipping cover, removing several orange colored plastic shipping protection devices and a couple of pieces of tape. I then cut open the toner cartridge plastic cover bag, removed the toner cartridge and snapped it into place. Next I put a supply of letter size paper into input paper tray and adjusted it to fit the paper. Photo Number 1 of this product review shows the printer with the open paper tray door and the open toner cartridge door. Printer operation setup was next on the to-do list. The Brother HL-L2315DW Black and White Laser Printer was very easy to set up for wireless printing from my Android tablet using Google Cloud Print and from my Windows desktop via the High Speed USB 2.0 port. I used the Installation CD provided in the box for the initial setup. The program installed perfectly the first time. I then successfully printed a document from my desktop. I then went to my Android tablet and had it search for the new Brother HL-L2315DW Laser Printer in Google Cloud Print. It was immediately found. Then I selected a Word document for printing. The print command was executed and very quickly the Brother HL-L2315DW came to life and ejected a printed copy of the selected Word file. (see this product review photo #2 “Printed Document”) At that point I had successfully printed on the Brother HL-L2315DW from both my desktop and my Android tablet. The installation and first printing was completed in less than 10 minutes. The video in this product review documents the first wireless printing from my Android tablet using Google Cloud Print. The Brother HL-L2315DW Black and White Laser Printer is quick and produced very good quality black and white printouts. The HL-L2315DW has a desk space saving compact footprint (approximately 14 inches wide and 14 inches deep and 7 1/4 inches high). The paper input tray stores up to 250 sheets of paper. The output tray can store up to 100 sheets of printed paper. The input paper tray can handle both Letter and Legal size paper. The manual feed slot is used for printing envelopes and letterheads and extra thick paper. The printer is capable of printing both single side and two side (Duplex) pages. Printing is really quite fast, the manufacturer claims 24 pages per minute. That claim seems to be factual. Single side and duplex printing are available on selection. The paper storage tray has a capacity of up to 250 sheets of paper. The tray accommodates Letter, Legal, Executive, A4, A5, A6, B5 and B6 size paper with weights of 16-28 lbs (bond). The output tray has storage capacity of up to 100 sheets. The Manual Feed can accommodate sizes from 3.0-8.5 inch width and weights of 16-42 lbs. (bond) and with media types of Plain, Bond, Envelopes and Labels. The Brother HL-L2315DW Black and White Laser Printer is Energy Star Certified. When in deep sleep the printer only consumes 0.7 Watts of power. I leave the printer on all the time so that I can readily print from my tablet at will. The only negative factor of this printer that I have discovered is the Status/Select Display is not illuminated & exterior lighting is needed to read the display. I used a small flashlight & it worked well. On the basis of using the Brother HL-L2315DW Black and White Laser Printer for less than one week I would give the printer very high grade marks. The crisp high quality text print along with very good quality monochrome photo printing is all that anyone could ask from a printer. It is too soon to say much about the long term reliability of the Brother HL-L2315DW Black and White Laser Printer, but thus far I have experienced absolutely no problems with this printer. I looked at product reviews for other Brother Laser Printers and found nothing but glowing long term reports, therefore it is reasonable to assume that a similar long term experience will occur with this printer. If I had need for another monochrome laser printer I would give this printer serious consideration for purchase. I received this Brother HL-L2315DW Black and White Laser Printer at no cost for Test, Evaluation and Review purposes.

This is a perfect printer. I am a college student and previously had a wifi, color, ink printer. I realized that the only things I print are course packs, materials, study guides, practice exams, excel layouts, and airplane ticketry. My studio is all wireless, so wireless printing is a must. The wireless functionality of this printer is flawless. I can print from my phone, iPad, and laptop all no problem barely any set up at all. In terms of design, I love the fact that this printer encloses everything. This fixes the annoyance of paper being left out in the open to tint, sag, bend, collect dust etc. The dust ends up entering your printer when the page is sucked in, and in the long run can ruin a printer. This is a non-issue with my Brother. Its massive paper capacity is also awesome. The real winner feature is front and back printing. Talk about saving my back! instead of printing a 700 page course pack, in color, form my old ink printer, and wasting an hour away of printing, I now set two pages per page, front and back = 4 pages per page, print in black and white (what engineering teachers use color.. none!) and print 175 pages instead, MUCH quicker and quieter. My back has thanked me already. Great printer, I have had it for a few weeks now and I can tell it will last a while. Comes with a starter toner (ink) brick that prints 700 pages. I am barely through this at all. Also, the mini screen and buttons allow easy access to toner and drum life and levels.
