Best Kibble for Large Breed Dogs

We have had 12 large breed dogs over the past 25 years. It is the only dry kibble that doesn't produce diarrhea in the large breed dogs.

Excellent, nutritious food

My dogs aren't the pickiest eaters, but they are massive! When I received it, I was so excited to read the ingredients list and see how great this food really is. Feeding my Great Danes highly nutritious food to help their growth and coats is so important to me, because they are incredibly sensitive. I have noticed my older dog has more energy and both of their coats have more shine. What a great food! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

3 Paws Up for Nutro L.I.D. Dog Food

I have 3 hungry pups: a Blue Heeler/Border Collie Mix, a German Shepherd, and a Black Labrador. They are all big boys and have huge appetites (60-100 pounds). They are active farm dogs that run all day and stay busy chasing a variety of critters. They range in ages from 2 years old to 11 years old. I have had a problem in the past with dogs having allergy-related skin problems from various ingredients in their dog food. Several years ago, I asked my vet about protein sources for dogs, thinking chicken and/or beef would be good for them. She surprised me by saying that chicken and beef commonly caused allergy reactions in dogs. She also said grains could cause skin problems too. I started looking for alternate sources of protein in my dogs' food. A dog that lived with us at the time would routinely scratch all night to the extent that the noise would keep us awake. After switching foods, the itching problem disappeared. I have also noticed a big reduction in gastric upset (a/k/a dog gas) after switching to a limited-ingredient diet. It was such a dramatic change that I have since always bought dog food without chicken, beef, or grains.. Most recently, I have fed my 3 pups the lamb and sweet potato variety, but I have also fed them the Nutro duck and salmon varieties, and I have fed my oldest dog the "healthy weight" variety. All 3 dogs gobble all the food, leaving not a kibble behind. One word of caution about the salmon variety: it stinks. When I open their food, I transfer it to an airtight bin and store it in my laundry room. Sheesh, even keeping the lid tightly closed, just opening it once a day made the room very stinky Occasionally, in the summer, my dogs will have an itchy spell that I attribute to getting into an allergen unrelated to their food. Heaven knows there are plenty of them out here. I feel the Nutro L.I.D. dry foods have kept their skin and coats healthy. Also, in general, since I have been feeding them a diet I feel is designed for their needs, such as the Nutro L.I.D., they have aged well and have not had health problems except for the occasional skunk-spray, insect bite, or run-in with a barbed-wire fence, etc.. Unfortunately, limited ingredient dog foods are more expensive that foods with less expensive protein sources and grain fillers. Nutro has been the most reasonably-priced limited ingredient dog food that is easily accessible that I have found For me, a purchase is not a value if the product causes me to spend more money to remedy a problem the product causes. So, I choose this food and spend a little more here and pay less at my vet to give my pups are longer, healthier life. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
