Wintergreen grows as a perennial ground cover or container plant in USDA zones 4 - 7 reaching heights of only 4 - 6 inches.
The ground cover is low-growing and can spread 24 inches by stolons. In warmer climates it does well in shade or partial shade. In northern cooler climates is does well in partial shade. It prefers rich well-drained acidic soil. It is aromatic and resistant to deer.
