Ray Charles displayed his genius by combining elements of gospel, R&B and blues into a fervid, exuberant style that would come to be known as soul music. This CD compiles two of Charles' most representative albums from his early years: The iconic What'd I Say (1959), and his sensational debut LP Hallelujah I Love Her So! (1957). While recording for Atlantic Records during the Fifties, the innovative singer, pianist and bandleader broke down the barriers between sacred and secular music. In his own words, he fostered 'a crossover between gospel music and the rhythm patterns of the blues.' These two magnificent albums have been remastered and packaged together in this very special collector's edition, which also includes two bonus tracks.
