The only thing my old cat will eat with enthusiasm

My 17-year-old housecat finds this the only food she will eat with enthusiasm. Until I found it she was wasting away and crying. Now she appears in much better condition and almost never caterwauls. And comes around regularly for petting.

I have been feeding my cat wellness wet food since he was a kitten. At first I fed him the chicken flavor but came to realize it made his sensitive stomach worse and he was allergic to chicken. I therefore switched over to turkey and he's been eating it ever since. I love that the product contains good ingredients that are healthy for my cat to eat.

My cats love it but 4 stars because of gums

I've spent the past few months trying numerous brands of a wet food to replace the discontinued brand my 3 kitties loved and Wellness wins! They all LOVE it, which is saying something. First the bad, because there is a lot of good! Why 3 gums? There is cassia, xanthan and guar in all the patés it seems. Xanthan in particular is known to cause gastro issues in some cats, including diarrhea etc. A number of your reviewers noted gastro upset after the new (now old) recipe change some 7 years ago. I had been looking for a gum-free or minimum gum food but the fact we're going with Wellness is a testament to its other wonderful ingredients and nutrition profile. If you change the recipe, please minimize the gums. Our old food only and one gum, guar. However, I do suspect my fussy 12 year old prefers foods with gums because of the texture. I've tried gum-free, more expensive brands, but he won't eat them LOL. Fortunately, none of the kitties seem to have a sensitivity. They have been through over a dozen large tins now with no digestive issues and did I mention they LOVE it? Gobbled in seconds! I only buy patés because fussy gramps will only eat paté. Specifically, I buy the turkey, turkey/salmon and chicken patés. Other than the gums, the ingredients are very clean and sound delish! Also, very glad you don't use carrageenan (and advertise that on the tin) as that would have been a deal-breaker. There are a few plant based ingredients, such as carrots and cranberries, which is fine; cats do ingest plant based foods sometimes. I've had cats who love to eat peas and cantaloupe! The main draw in the ingredients are the real meat, real organ meat, real broth and fish oil, yum!! There are no by-products or grains which would be deal-breakers for me. My 3 kitties are 1, 10 and 12, so I also wanted to find a food that would be good for all age groups. One thing I love about this food is that the phosphorous level is relatively low, which is great for senior kitties to potentially help stave off kidney disease that is so common in older cats, but good for kitties of any age really. This food also fits the budget as I can get good deals on the large cans. The smaller cans are not so cost effective, but if you've only got one cat, it is a good price for the quality. In addition to their wet food, they get a weight and hairball formula kibble (not Wellness) that they all love. Even the young one gets the weight control because he is getting the canned food. He has the potential to gain weight and has slimmed down a wee bit (0.2 pounds) since starting it a couple of months ago which is good. He is what you would call a "dense" cat...you would never believe looking at him that he weighs 15lbs! Anyway, a bit off topic LOL. Thank you for a great product and I hope my review will help others!
