Not much information on the net about this product. I guess because not many people have a use for it nor knows exactly what it does. We had a pump that overheated and the jet inside melted down and plugged up the suction inlet to a great extent. The pump lost pressure and would not build back up and shut off. After replacing the pump and the pressure tank, we still had the same problem. Well, no one at our local supply places had this part nor knew exactly what it did. I have messed with well pumps for years but never had to deal with the shallow well adapter. Don't let this problem drive you crazy. That plastic piece on the end is necessary. This part fit directltly on the pump and the bolt holes were even in the right spot.
