FLAME RED
I lightened my already dyed faded red hair to blonde in the front. This product looks just like the box with a cast of orange glow. I'm on fire baby! I'm loving it. They should call this color FLAME RED. When I do dye my hair, the tips never dye. This product did the trick. This dye has a really strong offensive odor. I have very short hair, and one box was barely enough for me and I just did the front portion of my head and sides. I wish there was more and it was easier to use with less odor. Pretty pricey if you can find it in the store. I paid nearly $11 bucks for my box in Clarksville, TN. Our walmart does not carry it. This conditioner is AMAZING! With lightening my hair and using the flat iron all the time it needed some help in spots and the conditioner in this box made my hair all over silky. I would buy this color even if I hated it just for the conditioner. Lucky for me I love the color. I will maintain the flame color with a discontinued Redken EQ shades COLOR ENHANCING SHAMPOO Bonfire. Flame on. If you get dye on your skin wipe off with nail polish remover. My pictures are indoor and outdoor light of next day coloring.

Mixed feelings!
I purchased this and we colour dipped my daughters hair, about 3 inches on the end. She has a medium brown colour naturally. It came out quiet rich purple, more visible in the light of course. Was a real hit at school. Now two weeks later and it is still dripping purple when she gets out of the bath tub. It has ruined my white towels, my white floor mat, my white sheets and my white pillowcase. We have gotten into the habit of blow drying it so that it doesn't ruin her clothing or more bedding. So, for that reason, I would never purchase it again. It has faded in the sun and her ends are definitely more course feeling now. She loves it though and it is nice that the colour is not too bright or bold.

Vibrant Red!!!

Hair color turned great! Fist I did a small strand test prior to coloring. I needed 3 bottles for my long hair. The odor was not that strong. I uploaded the before and after hair color photo.

i love the color

Verified purchase

This was the first time I have tried this dye. It is like any other boxed hair dye. I had light brown hair on top and dark brown hair underneath. Used two boxes to dye my long, thick hair. The color turned out almost a plum color where my hair was lighter. I recommend for use on light brown or lighter hair for best color results. I think it looks great if you are trying to achieve an eggplant/plum color.

Beautiful color!

I have been searching for a long time for a color like this. It's not so dark that it looks black, like most box colors in the purples. It's very easy to use also. It does fade out to more of a red but it still has the purples mixed in, so I'm ok with that. The color is also very vibrant. Highly recommend!

1. No. its meant to enhance and deposit color on hairs original color. Bleaching will make hair come out straight purple like the teenagers do.

2. For the best color, the lighter your hair is the better. I had light brown hair before using this color, and it turned out a plum/eggplant color.

3. Nope! You don't need to bleach your hair in order to get the great color! If you see my review, I posted a picture of the color after 8 weeks. I had dyed ginger red hair prior to using the London Lilac. No bleaching still gave me great purple color!

4. No!!! Too much on your hair.. I have brown hair then auburn hair and now I put this color in. What color is you hair that you would have to bleach it blonde??

5. I chose to bleach my hair because I am naturally a medium brown. I wanted the lightest color that the Lilac hair dye could achieve (I wanted the picture on the front of the box). I used a bleaching kit from Sally's Beauty Supply and a friend helped me get the back pieces so everything would be even. I bleached to a medium blond color. I am very happy with the Lilac color I got when used over bleached hair. If you have darker hair color than a dark blond or light brown I would recommend bleaching or pre-lightening if you want a super vibrant purple. If you are ok with a darker overall color then you don't need to bleach- think chocolate covered cherries or a raven's wing effect when your hair catches the light.

6. Hi CookieCrumbles, In my opinion, I think it depends on how much purple you want your hair. What I am saying is - if you want a contemporary and not so bold statement with your hair color but like the purple part about it, I wouldn't bleach your hair. But, my hair was platinum blonde before I dyed my hair with the London Lilac, and it turned out great and very vibrant. It made my skin look darker too, and not so pale and brought my green eyes out more. If that isn't really your concern (the added facial additions) then I wouldn't worry about bleaching.

1. I liked London Lilac better, but check the boxes before you buy any hair color because I bought three boxes of VS London Lilac, got them home and not one of the boxes had the tube of colorant in them - just the developer and the conditioner.

2. So if you want the color that is on the outside of the box you will want to pre-lighten your hair. This goes for any "punky" or alternative color. If you don't want to bleach your hair you should expect darker results. It's like what happens to paint when you mix brown and blue. If you dye over your brown hair you will get a darker base color that will reflect blue or purple ( depending on your dye choice) when you get in the sun. Kind of like a raven's wing effect. I hope this helped.

3. Sally, From what I understand about your question is that you don't want a hair color that will be close to black- Well I have read that the Deep Violet will be closest to black. It will have violet hues in it when the light hits the hair but would look black. I just used the London Lilac, and it's dark purple, but not so dark that it looks black. But to be honest, my hair was platinum blonde before I dyed it. So, in your case, it may be darker than the color that I have received. But, if I had to give you a choice- I would go with the Lilac one.

4. The london lilac is just lighter brown and purple, the violet is darker brown and darker purple so it depends on which you prefer. I've never had a problem with either of them fading or changing color in any way whatsoever and I've been using them for almost 2 years and have tried them both.

2. no, you don't have to bleach your hair. Just try to color your hair every two weeks until you get the color that you want. try to use a good conditioner.

3. Yes you will. I learned this from it ruining my hair. You should just go to the salon to get it done. Then if you don't like it you can color over it. But if you use the box color there is no coloring over it. And this fades to orange pink which I don't think you want.
