SCANSNAP SV600 SCANNER

First, I would like to say that I appreciate you giving me a few weeks to use the scanner before requesting this review! Having used the scanner, in anger, for several weeks, I can say that this is the best decision I ever made. I am scanning books and documents, including things like maps which exceed the capacity of any flatbed scanner available. I looked at using CMOS scanners however they have a significant issue with glare and reflectivity. The CCD scanner is the only approach to be able to lay a map or document flat and scan it without reflections. The book scanning option works well. A little tweaking with the settings and getting 600 DPI scans with no appreciable distortion in the edges is just something that cannot be accomplished with a camera based scanner. The operation of the scanner has been well thought out and is very easy to use. The software is a bit dated, but it is functional. It takes a little time to figure out what you're doing and then go back and make some setting adjustments I use it with my laptop and have been able to use it as a mobile scanning station for the kinds of historical documents I have been gathering. It works well for day-to-day items as well however, a flatbed or document feed scanner is probably more efficient for receipts and bills that are received on a day-to-day basis. If there were one thing I would want it would be a foot pedal to operate the scan, but that's entirely optional. Overall, I'm deeply impressed and cannot recommend the SV 600 enough.
