Key item features

Katharine McPhee ditches dance-pop and her long brunette locks for her second album, Unbroken, upgrading to AAA crossover pop and a short blonde crop. The sudden departure was necessary, driven by the general disregard for her 2007 debut, which in typical post-American Idol fashion, chased after big hit singles at the expense of her show persona. On Idol, McPhee always favored classic pop over modern, and Unbroken returns her to that course, bringing her somewhere within the vicinity of Paula Cole (who co-writes the title track), Rachael Yamagata (who co-writes "Keep Drivin'"), and Mandy Moore's stylized '70s throwback, flavored with the slightest traces of modern sounds, including a vague borrowing of Beyonce phrasing. The vibe fits McPhee, feeling like a deliberate blend of her "Over the Rainbow" and KT Tunstall tribute. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi

Love This!!!!

I really like this cd a lot better than the first although "Open Toes" (from the first cd) is such a fun song her style and talent really shows on this cd. I think if I had to pick a favorite on this one it would be impossible because it is perfect from start to finish. The only thing that puzzles me why she went blonde..It was nice to see a brunette with talent for a change..lol

Unbroken

This album is amazing. Her strong vocals we saw on idol singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Someone to Watch over Me, Come Rain or Come Shine are clearly shown in this cd! Terrified is amazing!

KAT shows us just how TALENTED she is!

Most of America - who fell in love with McPhee - especially after her OVER THE RAINBOW performance - were expecting something like this CD from KAT. Although, I loved the first CD, it was pretty much not what the collective fans of McPhee expected. Moving away from the overproduced modern day pop music, UNBROKEN showcases just how talented KAT is. She has the best voice to ever come out of American Idol, and it's a real shame most of the show's fans will never hear just how special she is. I feel if KAT had released a song along the lines of the the standouts (for me) on Unbroken... SAY GOODBYE HOW KEEP DRIVIN' SURRENDER UNBROKEN FAULTLINE ... There are so many, actually. ... she would've been a huge success. People who watch McPhee on Idol didn't want another modern day pop artist... They wanted a beautiful / strong TALENTED vocalist singing pretty ballads. We DEFINITELY don't need anymore modern day "we can't really sing" pop artists. Thank you for a beautiful CD, Kat!
