CHRISTMAS STORY, A BEAUTIFUL FILM FROM FINNLAND

Christmas Story is a beautiful film, filmed on location above the Arctic Circle in Finnland. The Story is how the orphaned boy, Nicholas, was raised by villiagers and became Santa Claus. This film is a warm and friendly "Hall Mark Hall of Fame," or "Love comes Softly," style of production. The film was shot on location during the depths of Winter under extremely cold conditions, so the actors are actually in the cold and not on a set. You can see their breath. The scenic beauty of the landscape setting for this film will encourage you to want to visit Lapland in Scandinavia above the Arctic Circle without a doubt. Christmas Story is a very heart-warming film appropriate for the entire family, and you will enjoy it so much that you will want to get to know these characters. You will Believe in Santa Claus after enjoying this beautiful film.

Tale of of How Santa Became Santa

This DVD makes a nice gift for children ages 4 to 8...It is a very poignant plausible tale of how a young orphaned lad, Nikolas, became Santa Claus. (It's different from the story of the St. Nicholas.) Yet, the main character's name in this story is Nickolas. Young Nikolas lost his parents and baby sister while the parents were taking the sick little baby for medical help, never to return to their cabin. He also took up wood carving to pass the time when days turned into weeks as he waited for his parents to return. The young lad was resourceful in breaking furniture to warm himself after the log ran out. Neighbors came to tell Nikolas the sad news about the loss of his family. He was adopted on a rotating basis, year after year by neighbors in the small fishing village in the North since nobody was wealthy enough to adopt Nikolas outright. The villagers all came to love their community orphan and he made many friends among the children of the villagers. One year, the fishing catch was very poor, nobody could adopt Nikolas. As a last resort the gruff tradesman agreed to take him to his woodshop away from town. There Nikolas was pretty much treated like a slave - but learned a lot more about woodcrafting and making toys...you can guess the rest of the story...BTW reindeer like red caps.

Good story. The town did their best to help care for this little boy. The "bad guy" ended up having a good heart. The relationships that were built were sweet and tender and strong and real. The audio was a little hard to understand... subtitles would have been appreciated. The special feature showed how many obstacles they overcame to make this movie, and I'm glad they did.
