I highly recommend the TCL Flip Pro for VOICE/TEXT

I bought two of these TCL Flip Pro 4G phones to replace our 3G flip phones, because Verizon is phasing out 3G. The Flip Pro phones were easy to set up and work well. They are much easier to open and hold on to then our previous flip phones which were very slippery and hard to open. The only tough part was figuring out Verizon's tactics, which makes it confusing to set these phones up on an existing voice and text account. We both have $5.00 per month plans with Verizon for voice and text only. Verizon does not advertise that they even have such a plan. If you go to myverizon and try to change to these devices, it refuses and says that you must go to a more expensive plan. HOWEVER, if you chat with the automated assistant and type a rambling message that it can not figure out, it sends you to an actual Verizon person who quickly and cheerfully sets these new phones up and disables the old ones. I am impressed with everything except this round-about activation method that tries very hard to steer you away from a simple voice and text flip phone. We both like our new phones, and are still on our basic Verizon accounts.

Everything I need and easy to use

I would still use a dial phone landline if I could, so I tend to be grumpy about cell phones. I have 3. For daily use, I tried a Smartphone and don't like the complexity. I mostly use it for Google Maps. I bought this to replace the daily-use flip phone I got from Verizon that suddenly stopped taking a charge, so I had to quickly replace it. I checked the Verizon website for a replacement, then went to Walmart online to see if they had something I could use. I wasn't disappointed. This is the phone I'd chosen on the Verizon website, at half the price. I ordered it and it was delivered in less than a week. Set up was simple; it has a very clear little instruction manual. The only thing I couldn't find was how to put it on speaker phone, which is really important for me - my previous phone had a special speaker button. Turns out you just press the main button while you're in the conversation to turn it to 'external'. Even simpler. Another great feature: in a pinch, can easily access Google Maps with this phone, although, of course, the picture is tiny. The one disappointing feature is that for some reason, the end of the charging cord that fits into the phone is larger than the standard size used on everything else I own. It's just a slight inconvenience to have to use the actual cord provided, rather than the one that's always plugged in to charge my other phones. I highly recommend this phone.

Great phone for a senior

Large buttons, loud volume, speakerphone. Went to the Verizon store to have them transfer contacts from an older dumb phone to this one for $50. Moving the SIM card over just transfers the number. Can receive texts (ie. for Drs appts and password confirmations) but of course there is no keypad so really can't send texts beyond Y or N. I found bad reviews for all dumb phones but this one seems to be a winner for my Mom who is a senior.
