MSD 50981 Starter Motor

First, allow me to say, this review is particular to 'my' application/installation, and should not be construed for all circumstances. I originally bought the 50981 (clockable) DynaForce starter for my early 70's 440 mopar, but unfortunately, I had a very small interference issue. The housing around the gear, (not the aluminum mounting plate, but the red portion of the housing), protruded just enough to hit the engine block. No clocking would correct the inference. This interference, of the starter housing with the engine block, misaligned the top hole of the starter mounting plate with the threaded hole in the engine. I probably could have taken a file and flatten that area of the housing causing the interference, say 1/32" to make it fit. Nonetheless, I exchanged the 50981 with the nonclockable 5098. The 5098 fit perfectly, and works perfectly. My only discord with the 5098 is with the location of the terminals, as they are mounted on top (in the installed position), not to the side like the 50981, and they proved somewhat difficult to get to. These Dynaforce starters are high quality, look great, small, lightweight, and powerful. Glad I made the purchase.
