When hanging your feeder, it is important to remember that it is the weight of a squirrel that triggers the closing mechanism on the seed cover. If a squirrel is able to reach over from a nearby foothold and avoid placing any weight on the feeder, it may be able to access the birdseed. To overcome this problem, allow for at least 18 inches / 47 cm of clearance around the feeder. This will force the squirrel to climb or jump onto the feeder and cause the seed cover to block the seed ports under the weight.

Beautiful but a Possible Concern
Heavy and beautiful. Definitely a statement! A smart squirrel figured out how to carefully lean over it and access the birdfood, but we do not care! My only concern/possible complaint is the seed compartment is flat at the bottom. My cheap plastic feeders have their seed compartments made so seeds can spill into the feeding slots. The seeds keep funneling downward. I am concerned this feeder will allow seeds to ferment in the seed compartment's floor.
