Pacifica Island Art uses an environmentally-friendly Unryu Japanese rice paper made by the Awagami Factory in Tokushima, Japan. Unryu, which translates to 'cloud dragon paper' in Japanese, features long strands of kozo fiber and is made from natural mulberry and hemp fibers using traditional Japanese Washi techniques - ABOUT THE ARTIST - Vicente Cristellys - Vicente Cristellys (1898-1970) was predominantly influenced creatively by the 1900s and 1910s. The Fauves are widely considered to be the first major Post-Impressionist group, working in the beginning of the 20th century. With artists such as Henry Matisse within their ranks, the Fauves believed that intense, other worldly colours and energetic brushstrokes were a key component of painting. At the same time, a young Pablo Picasso, still in his youth, created his famed Blue and Rose periods in Paris, and by the end of the 1920s he had established the first ideas of depicting fractured views of reality alongside his contemporary Georges Braque. This movement became known as Analytical Cubism. In Italy, artists such as Boccioni, Severini and Balla were hoping to capture the speed and dynamism of the machine age, in a movement called Futurism. Cristellys's artwork combined a colourful, almost Cubist, design with black and white photomontage. It is one of the earliest examples of the use of this approach in French poster design. Photomontage continued to grow in popularity within the country and by the 1960s it was the favourite technique employed by the poster artists of the 'Nouvelle Vague' and a distinguishing characteristic of their approach.
