I love to grow Ukrainian violets because of their vast array of colors and their variegated leaves. This mix of soil, and perlite, plus the fertilizer last at least for most violet. Whether you are starting plants from leaves which is difficult but without the proper mix of sun and the right soil components your investment may end in disappointment. Starting with the right mix of medium(soil), your hopes using this soil may more that likely reward your efforts far beyond your expectations. Remember that African violets will not bloom until they become root bound but once they do they do best in pots that water the plants from the bottom. Ceramic glazed outer pots with partially glazed inner pots will will more than likely prove their own value in short order. Also, African Violets grow the best facing the morning sun. Be sure that you have a regimen of rotating your inner pots 1/4 each day especially if you are staring with a very small/young plant. The key is starting with right soil and this is IT!
