Best of the budget scopes!

I've been using burris optics for nearly 20 years now. I am not able to spend thousands of $$$ on optics, as many enthusiasts do, so I was naturally drawn to Burris early on. Every Burris piece I have owned has outperformed its pricepoint by quite a bit, as well as outperforming any other manufacturers offerings that i've tried in the same price tier. The others just don't even come close! The Droptine series is no exception here. I own 4 optics from the Droptine series now, including two 4.5-14x42 subject of this review,, and both 3-9X40 varieties (standard %26 rimfire). This optic is very clear throughout the entirety of its power range, and w/ minimal distortion at the outer edges. the parallax is set @100 yds, and the ocular focus is easy to adjust and find your sweet spot. the reticle is uncluttered and very useable, the ocular adjustment is independent of the power adjustment ring, and so is the ocular body, allowing easy use of a flip cap. Being an AO, or "adjustable objective" lens design, you can use a flip cap on the objective, however it will not be perfectly, esthetically aligned every time, pending what degree you've adjusted the objective. No deduction in points here, as you should know what you are purchasing, and research the optics design prior to purchase. in simpler words, use a little common sense %26 do your homework! the finish on the objective is very good %26 evenly applied. the windage and elevation adjustments arent as crisp as some other scopes, but again, those other scopes are in a much higher pricing tier. The scope holds zero just fine with recoil from the likes of 30-06 %26 7mm Rem Mag. The light gathering is quite good, and so is the glass clarity. At a sub $200 pricepoint. I'd enthusiastically challenge you to find a better quality %26 performing optic. I just dont think such a thing exists. Owning 13 different Burris optics now, I can confidently say that Burris is hands down, the best quality optics for the pricepoint. and by a good margin! You get a much more quality optic than the pricepoint would suggest.

Everything works really well

The 4.5-14X42 Droptine replaced an older 6X Burris Widefield I had on a sporter weight Ruger M77 MKII 22-250. The extra magnification really helps my 69-year-old eyes. When zeroing the rifle/scope the adjustments worked perfectly. The scope is typically Burris bright, which is an advantage at the indoor 100m range I was using. I quit shooting when I had a 1/2" three shot group off the sandbags at 100 yards. I could see myself pull the last shot to the left so it didn't join the first two in their common bullet hole.

Great scope and features.

I bought this for my AR15 for coyote hunting and also a recent prairie dog hunt in which it preformed absolutely great. It replaced a smaller magnification scope and I'm very happy with it so far.
