You will need: 1 cup water, 3 large eggs, 1/3 cup vegetable oil.Baking Instructions:Step 1. PrepPreheat oven to 350ºF for metal and glass pan(s), 325ºF for dark or coated pan(s).Grease sides and bottom of pan(s) and flour lightly. Use baking cups for cupcakes.Step 2. MixBlend cake mix, water, oil and eggs in a large bowl at low speed until moistened (about 30 seconds).Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.Pour batter in pan(s) and bake immediately.Step 3. BakeBake in center of oven following chart below. *Add 3–5 minutes for dark or coated pan(s). Cake is done when toothpick inserted comes out clean.Cool cake(s) in pan on wire rack for 15 minutes. Remove cake(s) from pan and cool completely before frosting.For 2 8-inch pans, bake for 24–29 minutes.For 2 9-inch pans, bake for 23–28 minutes.For a 13 x 9-inch pan, bake for 23–28 minutes.For a Bundt®** pan, bake for 33–36 minutes.For 24 cupcakes, bake for 16–19 minutes.Lower fat recipe: Prepare and bake following the directions above except using 3/4 cup water, 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce and 3 eggs. Best Birthday in a While
Spice cake may seem like an unusual choice for birthday cake. I have a severe dairy allergy, and it's made events like birthdays very difficult. However, I was overjoyed to discover that most Duncan Hines cakes are dairy-free! Next to the rainbow chip I can never have again, spice is my favorite. I always make my own cake on my birthday. I used some of their recommended ingredient swaps and my secret recipe for milk swap. I topped it with an artificially flavored cream cheese frosting. It was fantastic!! It was almost like sponge cake and so soft to the touch like a skein of bamboo yarn. I'm not the biggest cake lover, but I practically inhaled it. I savored every slice and cupcake and ate every single bit of that cake in about a week. There were no leftovers. I don't even want to wait a whole year to have it again!
