Absolutely no thorns or excess debree was in the moss, the moss was not black, it was light in color. Overall I was so happy with my purchase and the quality I received. I purchased an additional package just for reserve.

Sphagnum Moss came just in time.

I appreciate how quickly this was shipped. I was asked to rescue a pot bound grocery store orchid that meant a lot to a friend. I had to trim out all the rotten roots and was left with a few on top, the nubbin of the crown, and 3 leaves that may or may not survive. The moss soaks up water nicely so I can provide enough humidity without drowning the poor plant.
