New growth emerges as a delicate lime green and as the days get hotter and the sun gets higher the yellow suddenly bursts onto the scene creating a dazzling display of color. The foliage will continuously intensify as spring turns into summer, at which point they will become a gleaming shade of gold. The more sunlight they receive the better this plant will continue to grow. This Ligustrum proves itself to be incredibly versatile with its compact and upright form making it a wonderful natural hedge. No pruning is required to maintain this shrub and once mature reaches a manageable 3-4′ wide by 3-6′ tall. Once established this shrub will tolerate USDA zones 6 – 10 without a fuss and prefers 6+ hours of direct sunlight. Water new plantings 2-3 times per week for the first growing season to help them establish deep root systems.
