It's a pate which my cats enjoy.
While it is a pate, I wish it had a bit more liquid in it for my cats. I have been trying to find the 12 pack cans of just the duck pate but cannot find it. However the cats seem to enjoy all three flavors. normally they don't seem to care for the salmon flavor too much but they like this.

Our finicky cat loves the taste of this canned food much better than other brands and also likes it better than the Tastefuls version of this food. His dull coat is looking much better and he seems to have more energy. Also this doesn't upset his stomach like Friskies or other brands do.
