Good Tool

We bought this bit for vertical mulching trees for our work as arborists. Worked a charm. We have the 9" auger for fencing. I like the change of the bolt on this auger to a allen instead of the hex heads we have on the 9". Probably be also buying the 4". We have the Earth Quake 2 man auger with the 8.25 Briggs engine. It has been a good investment.

product safety

The machine works well in smooth soil, but it becomes extremely dangerous when it jams on a root or rock by putting a lot of torque on the handle bars. It should be designed to slip and disengage when the rotary mechanism gets stuck so that the operator's hands and wrists are not put at risk of injury. The spring mechanism is good for absorbing the shock of routine bumps while operating in smooth soil, but it is not adequate to provide safety when encountering obstructions. There is no warning about this in the operator's manual or advice on what to do when this happens. We will use this tool with the utmost caution and readiness to release the handlebars and let it spin when it gets jammed, but you can bet we will be calling products liability lawyers if we break our wrists despite our caution if you don't issue a factory recall with a replacement tool with proper slip and disengage mechanism to protect against human injury.
