Take all filters out, throw them away, use bottled water, and wash it out once a week. Perfect. The filters actually do exactly what they are supposed to do, which is to trap stuff. But they fill up with nastiness so quickly they are not worth it. They get slimly, and oozy, just yukky. Animal saliva gets in the water, I think that is the biggest cause of ickiness, but could be a combination of things. All I know is I use bottled water, thoroughly clean once a week, and I have no issues. Crazy cat drinks far more from this than a bowl, and we are both happy.

Our cats love it! We had one just like this and it got broken. No fault of the maker. I dropped something on it. We bought a stainless steel replacement but our cats did NOT like it. Read up on it and found out cats can have an issue with reflective water bowls. So we bought this one again and ALL our cats are now once again happy with the water fountain. We love it!
