We have 2 Shihtzu dogs, 3 and 4 years old. They are the more stubborn in their taste than our cats. Who knew? It felt like we were going to go bankrupt trying to find something they liked and weren't allergic to. I was getting desperate. They liked the Merrick Backcountry Hero's Banquet ok dry but weren't super crazy about it. I thought occurred to me that it was sprayed with the raw ingredients, so every morning I give the food a splash of very warm water (by the time they get it it's cooled off) and it was true love for the kids. Our female runs between their two stealing the raw pieces which is something to watch. Even our male dog just stands back and watches her go. They truly love the Hero's Banquet. We've tried the red meat one and they didn't enjoy it as much although they will eat it. We ordered our most recent bag and with Christmas mailings, it was a day late in getting here…mom's fault. I gave our little boy a dish as soon as it arrived. Seconds later I turned around and it was gone. He was so happy! Our local pet supply stores are often out of this flavor so I started ordering online and have found the prices do vary sometimes. I believe it's a good price because it is quality food. Even though we carry insurance on our pets, we don't want to have to use it more than just their yearly check up. You know what they say, garbage in, garbage out. The opposite must be true. Good food in, good health out. One other thing I've noticed is that our dogs were really awful to train. They would not house train no matter what we did and we've had our little girl, 4 years old, since she was old enough to leave mom. Since they have been on this food, they have been easier to house train and to teach so other commands. If you are on the fence, try a small bag. Try it dry first and if that doesn't work, try a little warm water just to make a tiny amount of gravy.
