Easy and beautifying

I scraped chipping paint off of the porch. Around the windows, chunks were coming off around the glass. I thought the 1935 wood dry rotted. I learned it was just glazing putty. I thought it would be harder, like modeling clay. But, it's soft and so easy to work with. Just smush it between your fingers, press it into place and smooth it with your fingers. No special tools are needed. You can nudge it out of the container with your fingers. I used a rubber straight edge that came with a caulk kit to make it flush with the wood. Do wear latex gloves. It's a tad sticky/oily. It sets strongly in a day or two. I'll be painting over it in about a week.

Out of my territory

Exclusively indoor window sash restorer ventures outside. Gave up my Type M glaze for Dual Glaze Sarco outdoor use recently on an outside job. Glaze works nicely, filling in small, existing voids, as well as long stretches of completely missing old glaze. Sticks well to the surface being worked.
