Have had these for several years

A review stated 'not for food storage' but keep in mind, it is glass so you can store food items in it. I think what the tag might really mean is it is not for 'canning' as in long term food storage. You can in fact use these as canisters for your flour, sugar, etc. These jars do NOT have a screw on lid. The lid pulls off and push back on. They do have a clear plastic seal that creates a snug fit. I keep family size tea bags in one of mine. I also keep pasta in them. These jars are NOT American made. These are made in China. So keep in mind, these are NOT canning jars. These jars are in fact, storage jars for short term storage like sugar, flour, dry beans, dry pasta, coffee, etc.

I want this jar for all my pantry items!

I love this giant mason jar. I use mine on the counter to keep rice in, it holds a 5 lb. bag perfectly. The top does not screw on like a regular jar, it lifts on and off with a plastic insert inside to keep it air tight. I love the combination of having things I need on my countertop and the old fashioned country style of it. I would definitely buy more.

Trick to closing lid to fit perfectly

I was extremely happy with the size and quality of glass and lid of this Mason Jar. However, the lid was circling around the jar when I received it. It would not close properly. I read several reviews and saw that I was not alone. So I decided to pull the plastic gasket up a bit from the jar rim. Then I placed the lid on top of the gasket and pushed the center of the lid down on top of the jar, it fit perfectly. It suctioned so well that I was able to lift the entire jar by the lid. I don't recommend doing this but I wanted to make sure that the contents of the jar would be air tight. I have disassembled (took lid and gasket off jar), washed everything, reassembled, and filled the jar. I have since used it several times without any issues. I highly recommend this item. I tried uploading a picture, but was not successful.
