Pioneer BDR-XD05B, black

Very compact and portable. No problems in operation when used for the first time for Blu-Ray payback with laptop 8.1 software. Have not tried the burner feature yet. This device is supplied with USB 3.0 two port cable in the event that bus power is required.

Good drive, dated free Cyberlink software

Experienced fairly prompt delivery, well packaged, and drive unit as described. Indeed the Cyberlink software is dated, but free (not for win 10). There are newer bluray software packages that are free to download, and will work on newer OS platforms (e.g. Win10). The clamshell design works well with USB drives (can open to remove disk when unpowered, and smaller footprint required for use). The USB power cord (two input to feed drive) worked fine on my laptop for playback on bluray disk tried (using only one USP source plug on USB 2,0 port), but may need both plugs for writing a disk (yet untested). Adding a separate USB wall charge source is also an option. There is a power port on the drive, but you will need to provide the wall plug transformer (common to most powered USB expander hubs of ~$5). USB 3.0 should suffice for this too (single USP power source operation) if the port is truly USB 3.0 for "power" and communication speed/protocol. Supposedly USB 3.0 typically offer 900mA at 5VDC, whereas 2.0 typically half that. However, the expanding number of external USB devices being sold is driving up the need for higher current specs (2000mA+). Basically, try your ports and see if one USB power plug is required (and for all operations of the drive (playback vs writing disk).

Great Blu-Ray Drive

Easy to setup. Burned and verified 100GB of data on one disc (actually only 88GB max with overhead) in 4 hours at speed of 4X. It is quiet, quick, and does what it is supposed to do. Would buy another just to have as a spare. Not something to be without.
