These are the same price per ounce as the GV extra dark chocolate chips which contain more cocoa but they are also so pure that they are bitter. I wanted to try the Special Dark chips but I will continue to buy the GV brand in the future for more cocoa content. This Hersheys Special Dark is more like a candy. It is certainly sweet with a high level of fat but it does have more cocoa than the regular Hershey's chocolate bars. As we grow up we may decide that a little bitterness is OK when it means more cocoa bean, the magic ingredient.

Hershey's Special Dark chocolate chips taste so much better than Nestle Tollhouse. They also have less sugar, so you have more control over how much sugar goes into your recipes. If you love chocolate but want to cut back on sugar, consider buying these to have on hand for those cravings instead of candy. The flavor is so rich that just an ounce or two of these chips is completely satisfying.
