I purchased 2 of these last year. I like those bought for my living room. They are exceptional for lighting purposes. This purchase is for my bedroom. I don't have to keep reaching to turn off my bedside lamp. These lamps are great for seniors. Much easier to work with.

The assembly of this lamp was the easiest thing imaginable. If you are a person who is not mechanically-inclined, then this is for you because it is easy peasy to put together! I have it near the head of my bed and use it mostly at night. I read in bed; watch TV; light up the room when needed in the middle of the night; have a night light when I want one; there are truly infinite uses for this lamp with infinite lighting levels! It is not MY idea of attractive. I would not buy it if you are looking for something that will give you bragging rights! I would not use it in my living room, for example, because to keep costs down it is made from inexpensive materials that may last if you take care of it. I know that beauty was not a priority, function was. The two negatives I have found are one, that this lamp is top-heavy and the base needs more weight; and two, it does get hot enough to teach little ones not to touch it if it has been on high for a bit, but NOT start a fire! I'm a senior citizen, have no little ones running around my bed, and I find it perfectly suited for what I purchased it for.
