They were definitely roots...

The crowns showed up in good shape. Several large crowns and the rest were all a pretty decent size and I also received about two extras in the package. They all willingly went in the ground, no wriggling or screaming as I covered them in soil and watered them thoroughly. Have to wait until they go to seed before I can tell how many females v males were sent and thats going to take a while. I may be back in a few months to change the rating but seems to be a good purchase so far, time will tell.
