I used to use the kitty litter crystals and although I like using those, the smell of pee sitting in the bottom of the litter box would become overwhelming and I would have to take it outside once a month to hose it off. The pee also began staining the bottom of the litter box yellow. I wouldn't need to change the crystals as often for poo but the pee would build up on the bottom so much that I was wasting money replacing the crystals so often. There's no other way to remove the pee in the bottom other than pouring the crystals out and spraying it clean and then putting new. This process was expensive and time consuming. I needed something else! After switching to this litter box with pellets, I am able to change the pee pad out multiple times a month (as needed) and can use the litter pellets much longer. It saves me money and time to change out the pee pad more often than having to buy new litter and go outside and hose it off between uses. My cats pee towards the back of the box every time, so after a few days I'll turn the pad around to the front half for optimal usage. Helps save money! Also, I never smell the pee from the pee pad. I do smell the poo sometimes but it is because I put less pellets than recommended and they don't always have enough pellets to cover it. But I don't personally mind and I just scoop it out more often everyday. Overall cannot recommend this litter box enough! Also, I have 3 cats and the amount of litter spillage from them entering/exiting the box is significantly less! It's also easier for me to see the pellets that fall out since they're big enough to pick up and put back in the box (with gloves or tissues). The clear crystals would be all over the house sticking to the cat's feet/fur and almost impossible to see unless I stepped on them (ew!) Please make the switch! You will not regret it!!

Cats will knock pellets on the floor, but that's infinitely better than microscopic bits of litter or crystals. Pad tray slides out the end and is easy to dispose and replace pads. Cats adapted to it readily.
