Plow & Hearth Portland Ice Box Wood Jelly Cabinet, Walnut Finish, Vintage-Style

I purchased the Portland Ice Box Jelly cabinet to store my cook book collection in, it is perfect for that! Now, I have them all in one place, organized and easy to find. I love the old farmhouse look of this cabinet. My mother who is 90 years old, lives with me and remembers way back in the 1930's having an Ice box similar to this style on their farm as a girl, when the "Ice man" used to come 'round each week to deliver an ice block to store up in the top to keep items as cold as they could, before they had electricity - can you imagine that? They finally got their first "Servel" electric frig in 1940 and her daddy was so excited about how cold the Milk got (from cows on their farm) in that "new fangled thing!" Anyway- Oh yes, back to my Review. Ha! Ha! It took my husband about 3 hours to put it together for me, he can put anything together and never complains! The only thing, I guess I would say that I don't like as much about it - is that the color is darker than how it appears online. I wish it was like the color in the picture because I would like to actually be able to see more of the wood grain with a lighter stain. But, overall, I am extremely happy that I was able to finally get this cabinet. I ordered it back in March 2020, when Plow & Hearth had one of their fantastic 20% off sales - plus I got free shipping :) and saved about $100! It is an expensive item, in my opinion and you do have to pay $50 extra for heavy weight shipping. I had to wait until July to get it because it was on back order, but so worth the wait! I really don't like to order furniture online without being able to see it with my own eyes, but I just loved the style of it! It is very good quality, sturdy & well made. The latch will catch & pinch your fingers if you aren't careful & don't pay attention in closing it properly, I found that out the first time I closed the door & won't do that again! (watch children around it). I hope you will enjoy this cabinet as much as I do!
