Lightweight and powerful!

I was using a trimmer with a big 40v 6ah battery (that shares with my mower) but found it too heavy to use for longer than a few minutes. It also didn't have comfortable edging ergonomics or a wheel to support it, so I was eager to try this much lighter 20v option from Hart. This has a dedicated edging setup whereby you can rotate the handle and pole by pressing a foot pedal on the cutting head so the handle is always upright whether trimming or edging. The wheel allows me to roll it along while edging and gives my arms a break. I blew through edging much faster wheeling this around and it has plenty of power. It has a 2-speed toggle plus variable speed control on the actual power trigger. I mostly use low, and only switch to high for dense patches, which does the trick. This also has two line length settings- 11 and 13 in. and comes set on 13, which is all I would use as it still sits way back from the edge of the line cover. Longer is better for getting a deeper edge cut closer to what a metal edger does. The line length is changed by pivoting the line cutting blade 180 degrees. The line auto-feeds basically whenever you press the power trigger. It's much more convenient than bumping the head, but sometimes it seems to take a while to sound like it's done feeding to running normally again. When you run out of line you can put new line into the provided spool, or simply replace the entire spool with another pre-filled one. Replaceable spools are so quick and easy. It's made in Vietnam and has a nice long 3-year warranty. I'm a big fan of this trimmer and look forward to seeing how it performs over time. I really appreciate the power it packs in a lightweight package, and so do my arms!

Great Lithium Battery Trimmer/Edger

The Hart 20-Volt lithium battery String Trimmer/Edger is a perfect alternative to a gas powered or electric models. It comes in a nice very heavy duty dark blue box with all the well written information about this product. Some of the best features of this trimmer is no more priming or smelling fuel, pulling a string to start, finding a long electrical outdoor cord, less noise pollution and very little maintenance. The assembly is a breeze just follow the step by step instructions in the easy to read booklet. It is very light weight, has great balance and a ergonomic design. The handle is adjustable for less stress on the arm and has good length to reach further. It's ideal for the average home owner not for commercial use, but performs better than expected. When trimming the edges of the lawn stand back a few feet you get a better consistent straight manicured look. It seems to have plenty of power for my landscape needs, I have a 1/2 acre piece of property part of it goes up a hillside. The string can get tangled up when trimming dense patches of plant vegetation with heavy stems, just go a little slower. It is a auto feed trimmer and goes through a lot of string. My husband found a way to re sting the spool instead of purchasing a new one when needed. The battery does take 4-5 hours to fully charge but the performance out ways the inconvenience. All in all I like the 2 in 1 combo, the mobility around the yard and the simplicity, just charge the battery, mount it on the trimmer and it's ready to use.

Has some quirks, but works decently.

I generally like Hart products, but this does have some quirks. When I first started using this, it was making an unbearable racket. I had it on low power and everytime it made the racket I would release the trigger and see what was happening. This in turn extends the line everytime and it just kept getting longer and longer where it extended past the trimmer guard. After about 15 minutes fiddling around thinking the auto-feed system was broke, I finally thought to put it in high power and see where it went. In summary you need to have this in high power when extending line just so it has enough power to cut the line to length. The other quirk is that the line in the reel may not be wound up properly so it gets stuck. You'll have to grab a flathead and pry the line out so that it can unwind properly. Decent product but with its quirks it's not worth the $128. Unless this was on sale for $99 or less then I wouldn't buy this again.
